What is involved in the PADI Divemaster Program?
What will you learn? You will expand your knowledge and hone your skills to a professional level, by working closely with myself, and the highly experienced instructor and divemaster team at Buddha View 5 Star Career Development Centre. During the Divemaster Program you will develop your dive leadership abilities, qualifying you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers.
Why learn with Sally and Buddha View Dive Resort? Unlike other dive centres, where instructors fit in Divemaster training around their other teaching responsibilities, I am dedicated to Divemaster training.
Structured Schedule
I run a structured two week schedule (which repeats every 2 weeks so if you miss the beginning of a schedule, no worries!) incorporating theory lectures, practical training exercises and workshops allowing you to gain confidence in your ability to perform the role of a Divemaster, before you apply your skills to real life situations by assisting our Instructor and Divemaster team.
Having an instructor dedicated to this schedule really ensures you get the tuition you need. The schedule also includes seminars and workshops on Marine Resource Management and Reef ecology to really enable you to be a great dive guide for certified divers and student divers on the courses you assist. I do not put a limit on the time you can spend on your Divemaster training, allowing you to really gain the ability, experience and confidence needed to be an employable PADI Divemaster at a pace that suits you.

Consider adding the following to your internship:
PADI Nitrox Specialty course
The normal air we breath is made up of 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen. Our bodies use the oxygen, but not the nitrogen, so what goes in must come out. As we descend on a dive and the pressure increases, our bodies take on more nitrogen. Along with air consumption, ‘nitrogen loading’ is what limits our time under the water. Enriched Air Nitrox has less nitrogen and more oxygen than normal air, meaning that we don’t take on as much nitrogen allowing us to safely extend our bottom time! This is a must have specialty rating for a PADI Pro. To lead customers who want to dive on Nitrox, you must have the specialty rating yourself. If you don’t have the rating you might not get that job and with Nitrox diving steadily growing in popularity, you will certainly miss out on work.
PADI Deep Diver Specialty
The PADI Deep Diver Specialty is highly recommended for the PADI Divemaster Course. The Specialty extends your depth limit to 40 metres, the maximum limit for all recreational diving.
We will have a look at the effects of pressure on air filled objects, navigation at depth, the effects of nitrogen narcosis, rigging and using a drop tank and making emergency decompression stops. You will finish off the course by planning and executing a dive at depth under my supervision.
This experience is essential as a PADI Divemaster, so that you safely and comfortably guide deep dives, where decompression limits and air supply make control and safety paramount.
PADI Search and Recovery Specialty
The PADI Search and Recovery Specialty is highly recommended for the PADI Divemaster Course. On the PADI Search and Recovery Specialty you will learn and practice different search patterns and also using a lift bag for recovering heavier objects.
As a PADI Divemaster it is essential that you have good search skills. If someone on a dive trip loses something underwater they are going to look to you as the professional to help them find it. You are also likely to come across situations that require that you can use a lift bag safely, for example when organising or participating in an underwater clean up.
Discover Scuba Diving Leader Certification
As a Divemaster you are able to take Discover Scuba Diving participants on subsequent open water dives, if they want to make more dives after doing the first one with a PADI Instructor. To be able to extend your responsibilities on the Discover Scuba Diving program, you need to become a Discover Scuba Diving Leader.
Gaining this certification involves conducting four separate Discover Scuba Diving Experiences under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor, which then allows you to conduct the Discover Scuba Diving experience for participants in a confined water area (swimming pool or a sheltered bay). Holding this certification enables you to extend your role as a Divemaster and makes you more valuable to employers, allowing you to stand out as a PADI Divemaster.
Freediving Course with Apnea Total
Sounds a strange thing to include in a scuba diving internship? The sport of freediving is rapidly increasing in popularity, and as a PADI Divemaster you can conduct the PADI Skin Diver course. I think that it is important that you feel really comfortable with freediving, enabling you to promote and teach the PADI Skin Diver course with confidence. The 2 day long freediving course with the highly experienced instructors at Apnea Total, involves academic sessions and in water sessions to reach controlled freediving to a depth of 20 metres. www.apnea-total.com
